Therapeutic Massage
We offer an eclectic style of therapeutic massage that incorporates everything from energy work to gentle touch, moderate pressure, and deep tissue therapies. Some of the modalities used are cupping, vacuum therapy, microcurrent, Reiki, cranio-sacral therapy, trigger point therapy and more. Our therapist will communicate with you to learn what pressure and therapy is best for your body on any given day.
Myofascial Trigger Point Evaluation & Therapy
Compression of the trigger point may cause a twitch and elicit local tenderness, and/or referred pain. It is important the client do the stretching work after each session in order to gain the most benefit. The movement stretching helps continue pushing out all those painful chemicals that were released during the compression work.
Your first session will take about 90 minutes due to the range of motion testing, searching for active and latent trigger points, and documenting our assessment and plan. Plan to be here about 2 hours just in case we need a bit more time to go over your history and assessment plans. During this session we will determine about how many sessions you will need to accomplish your goals. About halfway through, we will do another evaluation to determine your progress. Each follow-up session will take between 45 and 60 minutes. This initial evaluation is priced at $99.00. Each session thereafter will take between 45-60 minutes and will be priced accordingly.
Pain can be referred from other areas of the body and often limits range of motion. Trigger points, also know as muscle knots, are hyperirritable spots (a collection of several painful chemicals produced by the brain) stuck in taut bands of skeletal muscle fibers. Pain often radiates from these points to broader areas. Through reliable referred pain patterns and lost range of motion, we can evaluate and release the triggers through compression and a specific series of movement stretching that helps regain full range of motion and release the pain.
Cranio-Sacral Therapy
Using a soft touch which is generally no greater than 5 grams of pressure – about the weight of a nickel – practitioners release restrictions in the soft tissues that surround the central nervous system.
How does Cranio-Sacral Therapy Work?
The central nervous system is heavily influenced by the cranio-sacral system – the membranes and fluid that surround, protect and nourish the brain and spinal cord. Every day your body endures stresses and strains that it must work to compensate for. Unfortunately these changes often cause body tissues to tighten and distort the cranio-sacral system. These distortions can then cause tension to form around the brain and spinal cord resulting in restrictions. This can create a barrier to the healthy performance of the central nervous system, and potentially every other system it interacts with.
Fortunately, such restrictions can be detected and corrected using simple methods of touch. With a light touch, the CST practitioner uses his or her hands to evaluate the cranio-sacral system by gently feeling various locations of the body to test for the ease of motion and rhythm of the cerebrospinal fluid pulsing around the brain and spinal cord. Soft-touch techniques are then used to release restrictions in any tissues influencing the cranio-sacral system.
By normalizing the environment around the brain and spinal cord and enhancing the body’s ability to self-correct, Cranio-Sacral Therapy is able to alleviate a wide variety of problems, from chronic pain and sports injuries to stroke and neurological impairment. "Upledger Institute"
Cupping and Vacuum Therapy
According to ancient Chinese medicine the body contains "Meridians". The Meridians are pathways in the body which the energy of life, called Qi or Chi, flows through. Qi flows through every body part, tissue, and organ. Cupping is mainly performed on one's back because there are five meridians on the back. When these meridians are opened, the internal energy is able to flow through the entire body.
Another healing aspect of cupping therapy is through the release of toxins in your body. The suction from the cups can penetrate deep into your tissue and triggers the lymphatic system, clears the vessels, and stretches and activates the skin.
Cupping therapy has been found in ancient records dating back 3500 years and it is still used today. New advancements in technology and materials have been integrated with cupping therapies and its uses now range for many different treatments and applications.
